Life After Camp: Workshops and Aftercare
Family Workshops
At the end of each camp session, Wellspring Hawaii hosts a Family Workshop. Since becoming a long-term weight controller is a complete lifestyle change, we encourage families to be as supportive as possible and create the most conducive home environment for campers to continue losing weight. Under the leadership of Wellspring clinical professionals, families are invited to become quick experts on the scientifically-based program.
Wellspring is so passionate about the importance of a supportive home environment that an additional incentive is provided: the full cost of the workshop is refunded to families who attend.
Some highlights of Family Workshop Weekend are:
- Families receive the weight-control tools that campers employ at camp (self-monitoring journals, pedometers, calorie counters)
- Parents commit to following the Wellspring program for the length of the workshop to help them understand the main components of the lifestyle change
- Family CBT sessions with behavioral coaches
- Culinary and Nutrition overviews and demonstrations
- Plan for a smooth and successful transition from Wellspring Hawaii to home
Year-Round After-Care Program
Unlike other weight loss camps that focus exclusively on short-term weight loss at camp, Wellspring Hawaii focuses on what happens when campers return home. Wellspring’s online after-care program plays an important role.
During the last week of camp, Behavioral Coaches introduce campers to the after-care program. The easy-to-use tools allow campers to stay in communication with their BC as well as other campers. The year-round after-care program also provides a supportive environment for participants to continue using the new skills they have learned at camp under the supervision of their BC. Campers continue to self-monitor, journal, set goals, converse one-on-one with their BC, chart their weekly weigh-in, and more. Click here to see what the myselfmonitoring.com site has to offer.
Wellspring is so committed to campers’ success that if the site is used consistently (75% of the time) in the three months following camp, the full cost of after-care ($500) is fully refunded.
The after-care program continues until June 1, 2009. Campers continue to work with their Behavioral Coaches until next summer as they meet their long-term weight loss and fitness goals.
If other family members wish to use the after-care site, they can do so free of charge. Accounts for family members can be set up at the end of the summer.
